Job Summary: This position will lead a staff of maintenance personnel at multiple shop locations to ensure that our vehicle maintenance programs are executed in an efficient and safe manner as well as overseeing rollout of new processes and procedures designed for continuous improvement. This individual should have strong leadership, management, and customer service experience as they are responsible for planning and directing shop leaders in their region on matters that include hiring, training, scheduling work assignments, and performance management. Communication is also required with outside vendors and service centers to monitor company equipment for repairs, and preventive maintenance schedules. The position is responsible for the management of maintenance on company owned equipment in a defined geographical area of The United States. Description of Essential Job Functions: * Travel to and monitor multiple shops'' for efficiency, safety, financial controls and maintenance compliance. * Monitor and analyze trends in parts utilization; gains, shortages, usage. * Observe, mentor, develop and review the performance and progress of mechanics and all shop personnel. * Minimize the time that equipment is out of service. * Know and comply with pertinent DOT regulations. * Monitor numerous Service Centers for proper, timely and cost effective maintenance practices. * Screen repair vendors and ensure they follow Con-way repair policies and expectations. * Train hourly & management personnel in proper maintenance procedures. * Monitor the sale and disposition of retired and scrapped equipment. * Ensure that all maintenance employees in the region comply with all company policies & procedures. * Directly supervise Shop Managers and Maintenance Supervisors for all employment matters, including but not limited to, hiring, work assignments, promotions, and termination recommendations. * Safely walk & stand for extended periods of time in various locations that may be outside. * Lift objects of various shapes, sizes & weights (up to 50lbs. frequently and greater than 75lbs. occasionally). * Safely walk, reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat & kneel as necessary to perform the job duties. * Prompt, daily attendance at assigned work location. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned. * BS/BA degree in Business or related field preferred * At least five years of transportation industry experience required * Knowledge of heavy-truck or automotive mechanical and electrical systems preferred * Industry experience within the Less Than Truckload (LTL) Industry is a plus * At least five years of previous management experience required * Previous fleet maintenance experience desired * Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others * Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to organize and effectively present information * Excellent time management skills * Strong work ethic/stable work history * Travel required at least 50% of the time * Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) * Valid driver''s license We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer M/F/D/V
